Not FDA-approved; sold for research use only. FDA placed KPV in category 2 (significant safety risks) for compounding, stating plainly that it had identified no human exposure data for KPV by any route of administration; the nomination was later withdrawn.

KPV shows consistent anti-inflammatory effects in animal and cell studies, but the entire evidence base is preclinical, with no published human clinical trials.

AnimalMelanocortin-derived tripeptide KPV has anti-inflammatory potential in murine models of inflammatory bowel disease (Inflammatory Bowel Diseases, 2008)

In two mouse models of inflammatory bowel disease (DSS and CD45RB-high transfer colitis), the alpha-MSH-derived tripeptide KPV reduced inflammation, sped recovery and body-weight regain, and rescued a susceptible strain from colitis-related death.

Demonstrated only in mice; no human trials establish efficacy or safety.
